Hello I would like to introduce myself, my name is Kevin Smith
and I reside in Mitchell, Ontario.
I first started training in high school after seeing pictures
of Arnold in a friend’s magazine. Once I started working
out I was hooked. A few years later I was convinced by the
owner of the gym that I trained at, at the time to compete
in a junior show. I just turned 21 and had to do an open show,
so I competed in the Hamilton Bodybuilding Championships and
placed 3rd mw. At that point I was hooked but had to finish
college first. After I competed for a few years as a middleweight
an won all my shows until it was time to move up to light
heavyweight. I could not dial myself in at this weight and
got frustrated, so I took a few years off.
In 1996 I competed again and in 1993 placed 2nd in the Ontario’s
as a light heavyweight. I found I still wasn’t happy
with my conditioning, I felt to flat. This is where Scott
Abel entered the picture. I knew Scott from a gym I trained
in London, Ontario in 1989. If my memory serves me correct
Scott was preparing for a show and was as wide as a barn door.
I knew of his reputation and saw how incredible his clients
looked on stage. I knew if I was going to tackle the Canada’s
I best be trained by the most knowledgeable trainer in the
country. With his track record I’d be a fool not to.
I signed up with Scott in the spring of 1998 and from that
point forward my body excelled beyond my wildest dreams. I
competed at the Canada’s that year in the best shape
of my life; you know those shredded glutes, which is Scott’s
trademark. From that point forward Scott helped prepare me
both mentally and physically for my shows. He taught me to
read my body like a book an fine tune it like a well oiled
machine, which eventually led me to win the heavyweight title
at the Canadians.
I must commend Scott on his truthfulness and honesty with
no sugar coating added. Just telling you how it is and what
is expected of you for you to excel to be your absolute best.
As Scott tells us, we are the ones who sacrifice and do the
hard work to get to the goals we seek. But Scott is the Artist
and with his tools of knowledge and support he sculpts our
bodies into a fine piece of art. If you listen and learn from
Scott, only great things can come of you. All I can say, is
thank you Scott for being who you are and there should be
more trainers out there like you who give 110% to their clients.
Scott adds:
To know Kevin
is to know a pretty special guy. always understated in his
approach. In all my years I haven't met too many people with
such a real love for the sport. I mean a passion that extends
beyond his own physique. Competition wise I've never seen
anyone have to pay as many dues as Kevin did to get to the
top. He has one the Ontario's I don't know how many times
and won the Heavy Weight class at Nationals as well. this
guy has put in the work folks !!! Never looks for the easy
way out.
Best thing about Kevin is that he never changes. Whether two
weeks before a show and running on empty or off-season, his
demeanor is always the same. Probably cause he loves it all
so much. Nice change from how most people get diet time. In
fact Kevin is so different than most, his nickname amongst
the Abel Team was "the Baker" When Kevin was dieting
for shows he would start baking insane amounts and types of
decadent foods, and just drop them off for people. It was
awesome. Most people don't want to even be around that kind
of food when dieting, but that's how different Kevin is. If
you know him for any length of time you know him as just a
genuine family man, with a real inner peace about himself
and how he is. I look forward to the day he tells me he now
wants to compete in the Master's Nationals !!!!! And by the
way, his pics do him no justice !!!!
